Build Brain Power, Protect Against Alzheimer Disease!

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009
prevent alzheimers
Julianne Rowat asked:

in Power, Protect Against Alzheimer Disease! It is really sad to see a loved one get Alzheimer Disease. Our mom was diagnosed with it and soon died after a couple years. She lived alone and was an avid painter and a golfer. First she forget where her house was when driving home. Then it came to putting her in a home, where we hung her paintings and she did not even remember that she was the one that had painted them.  At one time in her live she hit a hole in one while playing golf  and soon did not even remember being a golfer. When going to visit her in the home, we were unsure if she would remember us or not, some times she would, and other times she would not.  It is a very emotional thing to have to go through for the loved ones around a Alzheimer patient.  Our family is now doing everything we can to prevent Alzheimer disease to happening to anyone else in our family. It may not be possible to completely prevent memory lapses, but you can hold on to a quick and sharp mind as you get older. Scientist are finding that brains can actually repair themselves. By doing studies, they have found that the more you use your brain, the more active your mind becomes.  The more active your mind becomes, the healthier you become. Scientist did a study from ages 20 to 70.  With practice they found that 70 year olds did just as well as the 20 year olds. They found that by stimulating your mind, you preserve your memory. Scientist say your brain is like a muscle, the more you use it, the stronger it becomes. Other research found that the more you use your brain, the less chances of getting Alzheimer disease. They discovered that people with less than an eighth grade education had twice the risk of developing Alzheimer than those with a formal education. They found this group of people are just not exercising their brain enough. By keeping your body physically active you get more blood flow to the brain. By keeping your brain constantly learning, you get less diseases.  Your mind will benefit from an active social life. Playing games, doing crossword puzzles, learning new things, like a computer, new technology and having stimulating conversations. By doing this you will find that not only do you enjoy your life more, but that you also have more energy. Your brain also needs to relax, it can not always be wound up to tight or it kills off brain cells.  Meditating twenty to sixty minutes a day will also make your brain sharper and relieve stress. Stress is the leading cause of mental deterioration as you age. Stress can kill off valuable cells in your body as well as in your brain. Do not hold things in, talk about them with a loved one or close friend.  Focus on your breathing, by taking in some deep breaths you can relax. Build your brain power, fight against Alzheimer disease and continue to stay physically fit and challenge your brain every day. Do this and you will be able to enjoy your life to the fullest.

Aware or Not of a mental/physical disease?

alzheimers prevent
Sock asked:

If you had a mental and physical debilitating disease of alzheimer’s would you prefer to be mentally aware of it, knowing you’re wearing people out and being constantly confused, scared, tired, frustrated etc? or would you rather prefer to not have a clue about your mental state and be zombie like? still with confusion but less able?

My father has alzheimers and has recently came off the main drug that prevents the disease getting worse, when he was on it, he didn’t have a clue what was wrong, he was less active and was deteriorating physically much quicker, he didn’t want to do anything making his mind die faster, now hes more angry and able but the process of the disease is much faster.

In my opinion from seeing it from my eyes, i wouldn’t want to be around if i got to be like that, if you ever got like that would you want to know? or just get looked after and become just a body with no mental state?

My grandma.will she be OK?

alzheimers prevent
cookiemonster asked:

OK my grandma is hospitalized with 3 blood clots in her leg and 1 in her lung (Pulmonary Embolism). She has had alzheimers for several years and now kidney failure as well (all diagnosed in a day and a half.) My question is…The doctors have said that surgery is to risky to remove the clot in her lung. They are putting in something to prevent others from going to her lungs but what happens to the one that is there? Do they just wait for it to burst and kill her? Can it dissolve on its own or what? Please be honest and serious answers only. I have some medical experience so I know how serious this is but I don’t know much about PE’s. Can anyone help me out? If it’s bad news I want to know. Thanks in advance for all your help! God Bless!

Alzheimer’s Disease Part Iii-how to Prevent & Treat Alzheimer’s Disease With Conventional Approaches

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009
prevent alzheimers
Kyle J. Norton asked:

As we mentioned in previous articles, Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disorder named after German physician Alois Alzheimer. Alzheimer’s destroys brain cells, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior severe enough to affect language communication, memory, lifelong hobbies or social life. Alzheimer’s gets worse over time, and it is fatal. In this article, we will discuss how you can prevent and treat Alzheimer’s disease.Since Alzheimer’s disease is caused by the formation of plaques and tangles that destroy brain cells. Strengthening immune system fights against inflammation, heart disease, stroke, reduce high blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels and healthy diet will help to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

1. Inflammation

Strengthening immune system will help to fight off foreign substances, molecules as well as forming of free radicals that help to decrease or prevent any degree of inflammation in joints, skin, and the brain resulting in skin wrinkle, arthritis and memory problems. Cinnamon powder contain high amounts of antioxidant beta carotene that can help to strengthen your immune system and fight against any inflammation.

2. Mini-Stroke

Mini stoke may not have any impact in brain cells but hundreds or thousands of mini strokes may cause the blockage of brain vessels resulting in accumulation of plagues and tangles. Therefore taking life style changes to protect overall health may help to to prevent or delay any other memory loss and symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. Garlic contains high amounts of iron that help to reproduce blood cells as well improve oxygen levels resulting in better circulation of blood to brain cells.

3. Control high blood pressure

High blood pressure causes the heart to work harder to provide oxygen to brain cells resulting in plague building up in the arterial wall and hardening of arteries. Chlorella contains chlorophyll that help not only to remove plague from the arterial wall but also heavy metals accumulated in our brain.

4. Control levels of cholesterol

Cholesterol causes the clogging up of brain vessels. Fish contains high amounts of fatty acid Omega 3 and 6 that helps to inhibit blood clotting causing a serious blockage in the vessels of the brain.

5. Eating more vegetable and fruitsVegetable and fruits contain antioxidant vitamins and other photochemicals that can help to protect brain cells from damage from free radicals and stop the progressing of brain cells dying off due to Alzheimer’s disease.Others such as reducing intake of alcohol, stop smoking, get regular exercise and staying mentally active also help as well.

I hope this information will help. If you want to more information of the above subject, you can follow my series of articles and visit my home page at:
