My mother is having signs of Alzheimers, but is still very lucid most of the time?

She went to get Alzheimers testing done, but it just so happened the day of the test she was very lucid. No problems , no confusion, nothing. How can u get accurate testing for this when it doesnt happen always. Her mother had it, and we want to prevent the progression as soon as possible. Do we test her again? Does the doctor have to see something happen himself in person? Will doctors prescribe the Alzheimers medicine (I forgot the name) without seeing signs? She is definitely going down that path and its only getting worse. Any suggestions?
