besides alzheimers or amnesia, is there a disorder that causes people to temporarily not recognize loved ones?

      The time.
      For no medical reason at all the time.

      If someone is having small strokes (TIA’s) it could affect their memory. Young people can have strokes, though it is unusual.

      Urinary tract infections will do it.

      stroke
      schizophrenia
      schizoaffective disorder
      brief psychotic episode
      schizophrenaform disorder
      dementia
      substance abuse
      diabetic shock

      I would say a head injury may cause this type of condition or even a really high fever….
